Verrucae Needling
Verrucae are a notorious source of frustration and embarrassment for many clients. We offer several treatments at the studio, one of which is Verrucae (Falknor’s) Needling.
Needling of verrucae is a treatment causing destruction of verrucae tissue and inducing an enhanced immune response.
What Are Verrucae
Verrucae are benign tumours caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). They infect the skin on the sole of the feet with some cases infecting the skin on hands.
There are more than 100 known types of HPV which are identified depending on their appearance and location on the body. The most common types on the hands and feet are subtypes 1, 2 and 4. Below are examples of verrucae we have treated.
What Is Involved?
We use local anaesthetic to anesthetise the area. The location of the injection will depend upon the location of the verrucae. We use anaesthetic to ensure the procedure is completely pain free!
Once numb, we remove any overlying verrucae tissue and puncture the verrucae using a small sterile needle in line with the standard Falknor’s Needling technique. This will encourage the verrucae to bleed and promote an immune response.
Once needled, the area is dressed with a sterile dressing which remains in place for 3-5 days. We offload the area with soft padding to ensure it is comfortable to walk on once the local anaesthetic has worn off.

What Do You Need To Do After The Procedure?
Nothing! We advise you rest and elevate the foot for 3-4 hours afterwards, avoiding prolonged standing or walking. We recommend avoiding strenuous exercise for 7-14 days post procedure.
Once the bleeding has stopped a small black scab will form over the area. When healed you do not need to cover the area with a plaster or carry out any other treatment or aftercare. Should an infection occur post procedure we will arrange antibiotics and advise on appropriate dressings.
Following the procedure a review will take place at 4 weeks and 12 weeks.
What Are The Success Rates?
One study reviewing 46 verrucae cases reported 39 cases (69% success rate) reported full resolution after the verrucae needling treatment. Three reported reduction in size and pain whilst 11 showed no improvement.
At SHP we are collecting data on needling procedures, and hope to be able to provide our own treatment outcomes in the not-too-distant future!

Who is suitable for Verrucae Needling?
Verrucae Needling is the ideal treatment for anyone feeling frustrated by stubborn verrucae. It is ideal for the busy person or anyone fed up with weekly application of acids, creams or sprays! We will ask you to attend for 2 review appointments – 4 weeks and 12 weeks post needling, that’s it!
Verrucae Needling is not recommended for those who have low or compromised immune systems or taking anti-coagulation therapy. Local anaesthetic is used during the procedure therefore those with known allergies to anaesthesia may need to explore alternative anaesthetics or procedures.
What Is The Cost?
Verrucae Needling is a package treatment costing £450. This includes 1-hour procedure + dressings and follow up appointments at 4 and 12 weeks.
